‘Scenes from a Sketchbook’ is a series of 10 artworks (210x297 mm) created for one of the RISD CE assignments that incorporates collage making techniques to bring together images, words, typographies and colours in order to lay the foundation for learning proportions, compositions and colour theory. This helps me imagine worlds that can be seemingly different from each other but can be composed through cutting, pasting, distorting differences into a coherent whole.
For this series, I layed emphasis on identity and its distortion, focusing on the topics and questions that frequently plague my mind. Phrases such as ‘Don’t tell me who to be,’ ‘Which direction?’ ‘Part of me is missing, ‘My Identity is defined by Commitments and Empathy’ find a place in these collages that are a key for the viewers to find a point of entry and encounter these artworks.
