In March 2020, I authored an original children’s book titled “Nobody’s Purrfect: Different but the Same” to acquaint children with needs of speciallyabled children through the images of different cats and with that, normalize syndromes and conditions such as Tourette, blindness and ADHD. The book, created using ADOBE illustrator, is self-published and available on amazon. (https://www.amazon.com/Nobody-Purrfect-Different-but-Sameebook/dp/B093STTW3B). It curates different informative materials and at the same time celebrates differences in colors, sizes, behaviors through the different cats.
After tutoring children, I realized their insensitivity towards people ‘different’ from them and wanted to make an effort to talk about differences and disabilities. Through this book, I have been able to understand the format of a children’s book- its spatial composition, typography, minimal illustrations- and encountered ways in which art can be used as a medium to spread awareness.
