Sculptural Installation
2022
‘Don’t Fall’ is a sculptural piece of 3D artwork that celebrates material exploration by bringing together acrylics, strings, collaging, clay work and cardboard to create a connection between two hands that are created out of newspaper mache and plaster of paris. Wanting to explore journalism in the future, I have always consumed the news to critique it. The pandemic shone a light on the flaws of the Indian journalism industry, with its rampant sensationalization and misreporting, especially in light of a public health crisis.
I made this installation to tangibilize my anxieties surrounding the spread of misinformation, especially when lives are at stake. The tiny clay people are suspended to capture them mid-fall, a play on the words ‘don’t fall for fake news’. The black hollow box, to me, portrays situational crisis, providing support to both these hands that attempt to care for each other and in that prevent a fall in moments of conflicts.
